The University of New South Wales Solar Racing Team designed, built and raced their own solar powered car into the record books at the weekend.
The Guinness book of records ‘fastest solar-powered vehicle’ title was previously held by the slightly better funded General Motors, and their Sunraycer.
The title, held by GM since 1987, was smashed by 10km/h as the Sunswift IVy reached 88.738 km/h in Nowra on Saturday.

The volunteer students enlisted the help of professional race car drivers Barton Mawer of Mawer Engineering and Craig Davis of Tesla Europe for the record attempt.
Pretty good going for a volunteer student run organisation, pretty good going for any organisation actually.

In recognition of a superb effort in December, Ethan Twyman was voted as winner of the Le Mans Award last night.
"Ethan has provided excellent customer service to date & has gone well out of his way to accommodate my circumstances. It is such a refreshing change to be helped by someone who 'thinks' rather than just mindlessly completes forms. Huge thanks go to Ethan!"
Sarah Leal, Runge Limited
We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
Well done Ethan.

At the Paris Motor show in September last year, a new motor sport was announced.
The Electric Formula EF01.
As lovers of cars, the environment, and just speed in general, we’re going to be following the developments of this new sport closely.

Over the last two years, the EF01 prototype has been developed to equal the performance of a Formula 3 car, going from 0 – 100km/h in less than 3 seconds.
A Formulec world series is scheduled to start in 2012, with 10 races on five continents, and by 2013 the series will be opened up to all car manufacturers.

The EF01 is presented here to the President of Mexico Felipe Calderon at the Cancun Climate Summit in December 2010.
Hopefully we’ll see the technologies developed for the race track trickle down into the cars we drive over the coming years.
