A bit about me…

Originally from Scotland, I moved to Australia over five years ago. I’m now an Australian citizen, I have an Australian daughter, and I’m in no rush to head back to the cold and the rain. Driving over here is a totally different experience. I bought my first convertible, a short wheel base Mitsubishi Pajero when I arrived and loved having the top down as much as possible. Probably my best experience with that car was taking it to Port Stephens and driving around the sand dunes up there. Worst experience, was when it broke down and needed a new engine!

My AutoPackage

Just getting used to a life of nappies, prams, and all the gear that goes along with a baby, and we’ve yet to decide if our car is big enough. For that reason, we packaged our Yaris on a one year term, rather than tie us in for too long. My Vehicle Benefits Specialist advised me to check out the Nissan Dualis, the Kia Sportage, and the Hyundai ix35, we’ll see what happens…

Favourite road trip

Glasgow to Ardfern, in Argyll on the west coast of Scotland. Heading north from Glasgow you begin this trip winding your way along the side of Loch Lomond. At Arrochar, you branch left and head over toward the sea lochs, and the first one you hit is Loch Long. After skirting the bottom of this, you’re into Argyll Forest Park, through Glen Croe and probably one of the most beautiful stretches of road in the world. The pass at the top of Glen Croe is called the ‘rest and be thankful’, it’s so steep that the guys who built the road back in 1753, wrote this into the stone once they got there.

You emerge onto the shores of Loch Fyne, heading down a road that hugs the north side of the loch to Lochgilphead. Across the Cowal peninsula to the west coast, along the Crinan canal for a time, and after passing a small seemingly insignificant hill where all Scottish kings used to be crowned, you pull down a small single track road to Ardfern. First stop, the Galley of Lorne for a pint. Stay at Lunga Castle if you ever go.

What I like most about Autopia

Sounds clichéd but it’s the people. Everybody here is really committed to what they do, and they’re a nice bunch too. It’s great working in an atmosphere that’s supportive, encouraging and open to new ideas from all.
