A bit about me…

The token New Zealander at Autopia, I lived in London for three years before settling in Australia towards the end of 2009. Despite the incessant trans-Tasman banter I admit that Sydney is home now, and most weekends I can be found either fishing, or out around rural NSW on my GSXR1000.

My AutoPackage

Given the amount of driving I do in my role at Autopia (>35,000km pa) I was looking for something that would be fun to drive, and comfortable for long trips. I’m not sure if I have a genetic disposition towards a certain type of car, but my first car was a ute, and my latest car is too. It was the looks, combined with the comfort that eventually sold me on the MY12 SSV Holden Ute, as opposed to an SR5 or other dual cab utes.

First car

I got my New Zealand Learners licence on my 15th birthday, and very shortly afterwards spent my hard earned paper run money on a blood red, 1968 flat deck Morris Minor Ute.

Not content with the vehicle as it was, I dropped in a Datsun 1200 engine and full running gear, topped off with a big rig chrome exhaust welded straight onto the muffler poking ominously out under the passenger door. Pulling out the manual choke while running hot at the lights would have people staring… wondering…

My 1968 Morris Minor Ute, wish I still had it..

Favourite road trip

While there is nothing like New Zealand roads, one of the stand out things about moving to Sydney for me has been the abundance of fanatstic roads within 45 minutes of the CBD.

My favourite route for an early Sunday morning rap would have to be Old Pacific Highway north, Wisemans Ferry Road to the Ferry, Old Northern road down to Galston, back through the gorge, fuel up and back into the city.

What I like most about Autopia

Tough to say what I like ‘most’ about Autopia. Working here provides me with the opportunity to combine my previous work experience in finance and employee benefits with my fixation for cars, indeed all things motorsport.

As Client Education Manager I love the fact that I get to see a lot of Australia through my role, and to spend my days talking to people about something I am passionate about, hardly feels like working at all.
