Consider the following example of an employee earning $50,000 that purchases a Subaru Liberty for $41,108 and travels 10,000km per annum:

Had they salary packaged the vehicle on a 4 year term with a 50% residual (a common structure), it would have cost them $55,523.76 to run over the 4 years. This reduces to $50,311.92 after the profit they make on disposal of the vehicle. This might not sound like a bad result, but it is actually $982.48 MORE than it would have cost them if they didn't salary package at all!

Now consider the same vehicle with one difference... some advice from Autopia. Using our Elimination Method and a lower residual of 37.5% (the minimum allowed by the ATO), the same vehicle will now cost only $38,752.91 AND at the same time the employee would receive an extra $6,177.88 of super compared to the example above.
